Commercial photography is work that's created for a company where the intent is to use the photos for promotion of their product, company or service. It's important for the photographer to have a good idea of what works well for promoting a business and how to design the photo to be received positively by the viewer of the image as well as a knowledge of which locations, colours and people would work well for an image.
Commercial photos include magazine covers, online publications, billboards and website photos.
When shooting for commercial photos that are aiming to have a certain style it's a great idea to start with a theme in mind. This can be done by creating a 'mood board' which is a page of example photos with a style that you like or alternatively it can be helpful to have a chat over the phone to discuss the style that would work well.
